Text Box: Ways to Involve Parents

As a Girl Scout Leader, you are not only beginning a relationship with the girls, but are also building a relationship with the parents. Parents are putting their trust in you to care for their children, and you are putting your trust in the parents to help make Girl Scouting a positive experience for their children.

Have a parent meeting, before you meet with the girls.  They will get to know you and each other.

Establish how you will communicate with them. Will it be by phone, email, or flyers sent home.

Greet parents when girls are being dropped off. This gives them a chance to talk to you if needed.

Have telephone conversations with them.  Do this at least twice a year to connect with them.

Ask them to volunteer.  They are your best resource and can help with projects/special jobs.

Send a note.  Thank them for helping and tell them of their daughter’s progress.
